Single chassis FAS3220 - need help for wiring to DS4243

Dear,

I inherited a FAS3220 that is currently powered off and not wired to three DS4242 disk shelves. I looked at https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMP1213632 for the wiring but did not find the layout for the hardware I have. I have one controller of the type in section A on page 3 in the document in the URL. That section A shows the wiring for two controllers. Can I set up the FAS3220 with just one controller and the three disk shelves ? Or do I really miss a controller ? If the setup with one controller is OK (I know, no HA here), does anyone have a pointer to a wiring diagram ?

Best regards,

J.B. Good.

You probably want the single chassis HA with 424x shelves.   see attached.

SpindleNinja,

Thanks for the answer. My controller does not look like the one in your graphic, it looks like the one here:

I see this type of controller on page 3 top section of https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMP1213632 but there's a second controller in on that page. Do I need a second controller or can it use just one and daisychain the shelves to each other ?

You can just use the single if you want, The below part is an expantion module to add more expantion cards.

two controllers (HA) is always better than a single controller though.

Envision your 3 shelves as a stack.

Always connect circles to squares.

One controller SAS port connects to the top of the stack on the A side of the IOMs; one SAS port connects to the bottom of the stack on the B side of the IOMs.

Daisy-chain between the shelves on both the A and B sides.
