XCP support / workaround for RHEL / Oracle 9

I got about 1pb nfs data to migrate, and was hoping to use XCP, however all my strong hosts running Oracle 9.4.
At first, I taught putting libffi.so.6 in xcp-lib and loading as below worked, but it' didn't…

 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/xcp-lib /tmp/xcp194p1/xcp/linux/xcp

I keep getting random issues on each command, so I assume this library load didn't really work.

any suggestion before I revert to rsync or come up with the next workaround? NetApp not expecting to release a 9.x versions anytime soon?

Hi @GM ,

At this time, the latest version of XCP (1.9.4P1) officially support few Linux distributions (RHEL 7.9, 8.0, 8.5, 8.6 and 8.10).
When you try to exec XCP on RHEL9, you encounter this error:

xcp: initialization error: libffi.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

RHEL 9 comes with libffi 8.1.0 but XCP requires release 6 exactly.
My workaround is to create a symlink in your system with the following command:

ln -s /usr/lib64/libffi.so.{8.1.0,6}

XCP should work as expected.I'm personnaly using it on RHEL 9.8:

# cat /etc/redhat-release

Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 9.8 (Plow)
# xcp --version

Looking at the documentation (https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/data-migrator/decide-to-use-data-migrator.html), NetApp Data Migrator can only copy data to the cloud. If you need to copy data to an on-prem system, you should probably use XCP.
Another difference, XCP is a CLI tool and NetApp Data Migrator is a web-based tool.

Personally, I never used NetApp Data Migrator as I only have on-prem storage systems.
I'm also a Linux guy so CLI does not affray me 😅
