FAS2620 not upgrading IOM12 firmware to version 260

I have a customer who has a FAS2620 HA-Pair running Ontap 9.2.   I am trying to update the F/W on all external DS-212C shelves prior to running the Ontap upgrades.   I have downloaded the latest all_shelf_fw file to both nodes and I can see the

IOM12A.0260.SFW firmware file in the systemshell under the /mroot/etc/shelf_fw directory.  When I run the "storage shelf firmware update" command it does not update the F/W on the shelves to 0260.   It stays on the current release which is 0210.   Is there a dependency on a new Ontap version with the shelf F/W 0260?

Hello,

IOM12 firmware versions 2.50 and later include an "A" suffix in the file name (e.g. IOM12A.xxxx.SFW).

The suffix is used by ONTAP to ensure compatibility with Bug 1267906 and the IOM12 firmware.

As your ONTAP is 9.2, hence the FW is not being recognized.

If you  change the file name from IOM12A.0260 to IOM12.0260 , your upgrade will work.

Aman

Thanks Aman,

Sounds like I should wait until I get to an Ontap release where the bug is fixed before I apply the 0260 shelf F/W.   My plan is to get there shortly and then the shelf module upgrades should happen automatically.

Hello,

9.6P5  will have 0250 bundled. So, the shelves should all get to 0250 with ONTAP upgrade. Then 0260 can be downloaded to all nodes in the cluster to get them all to 0260.

I believe 9.6P9  bundles 0260 and includes the mixed SAS2/SAS3 stack support.

As a follow up to this.  Once I upgraded this customer's system to 9.7P5, the shelf modules did upgrade to F/W version 260 as expected.  Thanks for the responses.
