The factsheet for SnapManager for SharePoint talks about being able to perform a full backup in a matter of minutes but doesn't explain how it achieves this and how storage volumes impact backup times. Is anyone able to enlighten me?

SnapManager products do the backups based on the NetApp's Snapshot technology, which is freezing the pointers to the blocks at that point in time. This process doesn't take much time and is really instantaneous. It's not dependent on the volume size either. The full backup means the pointers to all the blocks at that instant, meaning pretty much knowing the info about all the blocks in that backup set, when it comes to the recoverability of that backup set.
Hope this makes sense.
