Hi ,

I have two esxi box and one volume created in Netapp E series and added to one of the esxi box and created the vmfs data store and drives created and mounted to the Windows vm's .

Now we have requirement to add the same netapp e series volume to the second esxi host .

But when i tries to add the same volume to the ESXI group in e series it changing the LUN id 0 .

So question is whether is doable or i have to follow some other method to add the same volume visible in two esxi box  without the data loss .

How does that impact your vSphere?

As far as I know ESXi cares about its own volume IDs (and signatures) & block device IDs, and does not LUN IDs, so  changing LUN numbers don't effect it. ESXi-to-device mapping may be viewed like in this KB - https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2030957 and you can save this end-to-end VMFS-to-device-to-volume mapping to a text file for your own reference.

I only know of these generic FC SAN best practices common to all SANs, and I don't remember I've ever seen any recommendations related to LUN numbers.
