Hi Chris, There is no way to avoid it. As in case of the SV source which is the VSM destination its the entire volume. So PM splits them into individual qtree and snapvault the entire volume including the non-qtree data. You cannot import qtrees as primary member if you wish to have a VSM. But what is the problem you see in non-qtree data being snapvaulted ? It finish of in seconds a there should be no data. Can you give me more details on what is your concern or reasoning on not having the non-qtree data snapvaulted ? Regards adai

Hi Alain, Let me see if I understood your intentions. You are basically trying to move the existing volume in qtrees that belong to a vfiler from one aggr to another aggr of the same physical filer. Is it correct ? If so there is no easy way other than doing a snapmirror between the 2 aggr. vFiler migration of primary works across filers and not with a filer. Secondary volume migration will work but for that you will have to make sure there are no client facing protocols for the volume enabled like CIFS shares or NFS exports. Regards adai

Hi, If the relationships are not updated by PM you will see this. BTW can you run a dfm host diag on both your source and destination controller and let us know if you still see the lag error. Regards adai

Hi, When a new volume is created in the controller and DFM discovers it, an Normal event called volume online is generated. You can use this. Can you give me the output of the following cli ? snapmirror status from the destination filer of these relationship. dfpm dataset list -R <dsname> Regards adai

Hi Marc, I just confirmation from our folks internally that bug 624459 affects qtree snapmirror as well. Pls open a case with netapp and reference this bug to them. Also to find the problematic file, follow the public report for bug 624459 in the link that I gave in my previous reply. Regards adai

Hi Neil and Muhammad, We are looking into this issue. Also is there any specific reason why you are running 5.0 and not the GA version 5.0.2 ? Regards adai

Hi Marc, Sorry for the delay. I did some internal search and found a similar bug. Here is the link to the same. http://support.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=624459 Though it says snapvault, I guess you may have some relations because Qtree SnapMirror and SnapVault uses same replication engine as far as I know. What is the version of ONTAP that you are running ? I also suggest you to open a support case with NetApp for the same. This is a pure ontap error message and has nothing to do with Protection Manager. Regards adai

Hi Nikita, All data protection operations in Protection Manager is done using NDMP. Pls got to NMC>ManageData>Hosts>Storage Systems click on the diagnose wizard and enable NDMP, and set the credentials for NDMP users. The same user of root can be used a NDMP user as well. I also suggest you read this guide which explains the pre-req in detail. https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMP1113681/html/html/frameset.html Esp the topic titled Configure the host storage systems In the guide named Guide to Common Provisioning and Data Protection Workflows for 7-Mode Protection example workflow>Configure the host storage systems Regards adai

OSSV is used when the storage being backed up is non NetApp but the target is NetApp. Given that its not your case I dont see a need for OSSV though its a circuitous way to protect data when its still netapp. Regards adai

Hi Jean-Christophe, Yup pretty much, but it was warm when I landed and became hot when I was about to leave. I did try Fondue and liked it. BTW though you can set different percentage value for each volumes snapshot usage, but unfortunately its still percentage. Also the percentage is of the SnapReserve and not the full volume capacity. Regards adai

Hi Jean, Pls find my responses inline. - Is it possible to get the history of snapshots with their sizes for a specific volume or aggregate? Did you try the snapshot reports ? Can you give me some example of what you are looking for ? So that I can tell you if that is possible with OCUM or not. - Can we setup an alarm different than the threshold for a specific volume? By alarm you mean alarm for the snapshot usaage ? If so yes we already have one. [root@vmlnx ~]# dfm options list | grep -i volsnap volSnapshotCountThreshold 250 volSnapshotFullThreshold 90 volSnapshotTooOldThreshold 52 weeks [root@vmlnx ~]# dfm eventtype list | grep -i df.snapshot.kbytes snapshot-full Warning df.snapshot.kbytes snapshot-space-ok Normal df.snapshot.kbytes [root@vmlnx ~]# dfm eventtype list | grep -i old-snap snapshots:not-too-old Normal old-snaps snapshots:too-old Warning old-snaps [root@vmlnx~]# Regards adai

Hi Ben, I just took a look at the dfm diag, I see no issue Its a brand new/fresh setup Only 2 controllers Default Monitoring Intervals None of the object counts are even near any of the limits No protection only monitoring and performance advisor No db issues just 20MB Pls see if there are any performance problems with VMware. Also what you have in our Server resource( RAM) is the minimum requirement which should be fine for 2 controllers monitoring. But if possible try increasing it to 6 or 8GB and let us know if that alleviates the problem.
