CIFS share alias?

I have to 980's that I am retiring.  I am getting alot of kickback from users regarding changing the share locations for their CIF shares.  Can someone tell me if it is possible to create some sort of alias so that users won't have to change they're share locations?  I feel like I should know the answer to this but I'm brain dumping.

I would just set up a DNS CNAME poiting the name of the old 980 to the IP of the new controller.  Then just set up a share of the same name on the new controller that points to the right data.

That's probably the easiest.  In the old days, we used to use netbios aliases,  but now with AD, no many folks use netbios anymore.

Yeah I'm in the book looking at the cifs netbias alias and I can't get it to work.

Yeah,  but like I said, most modern Windows don't use netbios for resolution anymore so you're better off aliasing it at the DNS level.
