NIS passwords not encrypted

Hi all,

I have a client who has just bought a new FAS2050 and he came with the following.

They use NIS and have always has the problem of passwords being in plane text.

The question that came up is there a way to make sure all passwords send will be encrypted???

I hope someone can give me a tip on how best to use NIS ( NIS + is not an option I am afraid. ).

Thanks in advance.

Eric

Are you wanting to have the passwords in the /etc/passwd file encrypted or when authentication happens over the network?

Hi Brandon,

Authentication over the network.

You need to turn on Kerberos. Run nfs setup to turn it on. Have a snoop around the now.site first however.
