ONTAP Hardware
Hi All,
Actually, We have a FAS2750 10 Gb Base T for NAS services. Due to a network upgrading, we need to change our 1 gb base T connection per 10 gb SFP.
Our Storage team are planning to change controllers FAS2750 10 Gb Base T per controllers FAS2750 UTA2 and we want to following the "Controller Module Replacement-FAS2700" from NetApp Docs. (https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap-systems/fas2700/controller-replace-overview.html)
As you know, for this escenario it is not possible change only ethernet connections to UTA2 SFP connections using adapter cards without changing the controller.
My question is, will it work for us?
Thanks for your support.
Solved! See The Solution
It is better characterized as a motherboard procedure, but it is a supported way to change the mezzanine that is being used. Order Qty: 2 of this part and any applicable SFP cables/optics.
X3218A Controller,No MEM,CNA,C190,FAS2700
You will need to move over all of the internal components from the old motherboard (DIMMs, NV battery). You will also need to open a non-technical case to transfer your support entitlements and licenses to the new motherboard's system serial number (SSN).
Hello,
So I understand - you have purchased replacement controller modules and will shut down the system and remove the 10GbaseT controllers and replace them with the UTA2 ones? It is not supported to move the mezzanine cards between the two models.
What I think you are proposing is the same as doing a head-swap controller upgrade. You should turn off the system and replace both controllers, boot to maintenance mode and reassign disks, then boot ONTAP. reconfigure networking and apply new license files. It is an advanced operation and you should consider using a third party netapp specialist to do it.
But a better option may be an external 4 way UTP to SFP media converter..

Hello,
Yes, we have a quote with these part number and SFPs, LC cables. The, we can follow the instructions from this netapp doc: https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap-systems/fas2700/controller-replace-overview.html?
Yes, that would be the procedure.
As mentioned earlier, you would have post-replacement activity to transfer entitlements and licenses.
Thanks for your help.
No, we are planning which option works for us. I understand that is not supported remove mezzanine cards between controllers because these ports are embedded on mother board on each controller.
So I think about completely replacing the controller model from FAS2750 base T to FAS2750 UTA2.
