DS2246 with iom6 compatibilty with FAS8200 with IOM12

Hi everyone,

I am planning to add DS2246 having IOM6 to an FAS8200 with IOM12, i want to know if this shelve is compatible and if i need to change the IOM6 to IOM12 before.

Hi,

This type of information is readily available in the NetApp Hardware Universe.

But there's two important facts you need to know...

1. All SAS2 shelves like the DS2246 passed End of Support (EOS) on 31-Jan-2025.
2. ONTAP 9.16.1 and later no longer supports SAS2 shelves

An enhancement has been made in ONTAP to allow intermixing of IOM6-based shelves
with IOM12-based shelves in the same stack. Only one speed transition is allowed.
For example, a single speed transition within a stack having two IOM6 shelves and
two IOM12 shelves is depicted as:
Controller <-> IOM6 <-> IOM6 <---> IOM12 <-> IOM12 <-> Controller
NOTES:
This enhancement requires:
- IOM12 firmware 0260 and later
- IOM12E firmware 0210 and later
