Hi,
I'm wondering if it's possible and how I can:
1- Move existing disk shelfs DS4243 connected to a FAS2040 to a new FAS2240 without losing data
PS: The new FAS2240 don't have any disk shelfs, only the internal disks.
Thanks!

Sorry for the bad news, but AFAIK you will need to have the same capacity at your new FAS22xx and then do a snapmirror from the FAS2040 to the FAS22xx.
Do you have a DR for this FAS2040?

Hello Aimbere,
It is possible. Check this document: https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMP1140589/html/frameset.html

Pedro Rocha.
Hi Pedro,
The document is really helpful but I have some doubts.... Reading the doc I found:
"This procedure is written with the following assumptions:
My problem is that FAS2040 have internal storage. I have to figure out how can I move this data to external disk shelves
Another problem is that new FAS22xx don't have any attached disk shelves.
Any ideias?
Thanks!
Aimbere,
So maybe this is the one you're looking for:

Hi Aimbere,
How your aggregate was created at FAS2040?
- 1 aggregate with internal disks + external shelf or,
- 2 aggregates: 1 with internal disks and 1 with external shelf.

Hi Rodrigo,
unfortunately I have the option 1:
- 1 aggregate with internal disks + external shelf + 2 raid groups
Aggregate aggr0 (online, raid_dp, redirect) (block checksums)
Plex /aggr0/plex0 (online, normal, active, pool0)
RAID group /aggr0/plex0/rg0 (normal)
RAID Disk Device HA SHELF BAY CHAN Pool Type RPM Used (MB/blks) Phys (MB/blks)

I don't have space on new FAS22xx to support all data... and our DR site it's a fraction of the 2040 production site.
Do you think is possible to rearrange data on FAS2040 before transfer to new FAS22xx?
Maybe I can copy data from FAS2040 internal disks to internal disks on FAS22xx and rearrange data in some way that I can move disk shelves to the new system...
I believe in Santa Claus...
Thanks!
Sorry again my friend, but is not possible to remove disks from an aggregate.
In this case, you need to backup your FAS2040, detroy your aggregate, remove disk ownership from your disk shelf, attach your disk shelf at your new FAS22xx, assign disks for your FAS22xx, create a new aggregate (in this case with internal + external drives because FAS22xx can turn a disk shelf in case of an new upgrade) and restore your data volumes.
😞 for again for the bad news.
Rodrigo Nascimento
Really bad news.... but no problem...
Just on more question. On new FAS22xx you said that I should create a new aggregate with internal + external disks.
Should I create an aggregate with just internal disks to avoid the same problem that I having now if I want to move disk shelves to another system? Or because FAS22xx can turn internal disks in a disk shelf I should create the aggregate like you said?
Thanks
Aimberê
At FAS22xx you can create an aggregate with internal+external drives. It is a best practice to use disks of the same size to avoid waste space.
The FAS22xx can be turn on a shelf in case of an upgrade. You only need to replace the controllers to IOXM modules.
All the best,
Rodrigo Nascimento
