I have move the connection to 2d from 0d port on the filer, and the end of the connection is to the switch and then from the switch to the tape library, and the window backup server uses tape drives. My question is, if the location of the port on the filer gets changed, what impact on the window server, the configurations for tape drives would get changed as well? and thefore the backup software? what should I do to accomdate the change on the window server?

thanks,

Sounds like you need persistent binding. Most, if not all, FC HBA drivers include such a feature.  (Edit: ugh, that wikipedia page is not very good, you should be able to find better info than that).
