Dear everyone, When performing an ONTAP upgrade on NetApp systems, we observe an I/O interruption lasting approximately 10 to 30 seconds, which causes all applications to terminate. This interruption occurs frequently during the upgrade process, and we are looking for ways to minimize its impact. We have tested the following upgrade approaches: 1. Manual takeover using the storage failover takeover command 2. Step-by-step takeover (LIF migration → CFO takeover → SFO takeover) 3. ANDU (Automated Non-Disruptive Upgrade) We confirmed that I/O interruption occurs with all of the above methods. Among them, option 2 (step-by-step takeover) results in the least impact, but the interruption is still noticeable. This issue does not appear to be related to system utilization, and we have observed that it occurs more frequently on ONTAP 9.12.1 and later versions, even when running the latest patch releases. We would appreciate your advice on: Whether this behavior is expected in recent ONTAP versions Any known issues or changes in takeover/upgrade behavior since 9.12.1 Best practices or configuration recommendations to further reduce or eliminate this I/O interruption during upgrades. Thank you.

Hi, I'm curious if there is any leeway in supported hardware for EOA/EOS systems, such as a FAS8020. Have a customer running 8.2.3 7-mode and wanting to add about 800TB of capacity, but we want to use larger drives than the officially-supported max of 6TB per spindle. I do see at higher ONTAP versions, more supported disks come into the fold, but was wondering if anyone had successfully gone outside of the HWU boundaries before. Thanks!

Hi, I would like to replace spare 6 x SAS disks with 6 x 960 GB SSD disks to create a new full ssd aggregate (raidDP). The system FAS2750 has internal controller chassis DS224-12 and 1 additional shelf DS224-12. May I know is there any preference disk slots/stack for the SSD disks in term of best practice and performance point of views? Thanks.

We need to perform a task that involves disconnecting one of the cluster interconnect cables as part of a Failover Test and during the transition from a 2-node switchless configuration to a 4-node switched cluster. Because this procedure requires maintaining continuous service, the customer is requesting an official NetApp document or guidance confirming that disconnecting a single cluster cable does not cause any I/O interruption or noticeable I/O fluctuations. In our internal testing, we confirmed that there was no I/O outage; however, we did observe very slight I/O fluctuations. These minor latency spikes appeared to have minimal impact on the virtual machines in the test environment. We would appreciate any official documentation or recommendations from NetApp regarding the service assurance when a single cluster interconnect link is disconnected, including both I/O continuity and the absence of I/O fluctuation.

Dear Everyone, After upgrading the FAS8200 platform to ONTAP 9.12.1, the output time of the sensors show command has increased from the previous 2 seconds to about 4 seconds. Using the hidden option, we confirmed that there are some differences in the "init sensors" section. Although the number of sensor items is the same between ONTAP 9.9 and 9.12.1, the customer is concerned about what internal logic changes may have caused the additional 2-second delay. While we believe this behavior is normal, we need to provide the customer with a clear explanation of the underlying reason. For comparison with other platforms: FAS8300: 328 sensors → output within 1 second AFF A700s: 430 sensors → output within 1 second I would appreciate any advice you can provide regarding this issue.
