Hi all,
we are planning a head swap from our 8020 to a new 8040 in the near future. Not wanting to bother with lenghty software reinstallation to correct version via Netboot on the new empty 8040 and also not wanting to update the 8020 beforehand:
Is it possible, as both are architecturally the same, to just put the boot device from the existing 8020 to the new 8040 to preserve our current ONTAP version and only having to essentially reassign the disks...?
Regards
Marcel

I never tried this myself but this has good chances to work, as long as boot device is the same. But I would definitely open case with NetApp to have support if something hits wrong.
