Hi @PaulWitta  ,

I assume that you are looking to perform an Aggregate ReLocation (ARL)?  They are complicated and I even struggled with NetApp support when I had issues.  You are best to engage with someone who has performed a number of ARLs, I know someone who I can provide as a good reference, just DM me if you need details.

I am sure that you would need a platform that can run ONTAP 9.8, such as the FAS2750 to perform the migration as a stepping stone to FAS2800. There is NetApp documentation, but it does not cover all areas, reference here https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap-systems-upgrade/upgrade-arl-manual-app/

No You can't. You have to have same version of ontap. If you have fas 2750 You can downgrade it to 9.8, connect shelf from 8040 an reassign the disks and boot with 8040 aggregates. After That you can upgrade 2720  to newest version matchin 2820 and do the same again. Warning:

On 8040  you have  probably old sas6 stack. Ontap since 9.16 didnt support SAS6
