Key Features and Benefits
NetApp Disaster Recovery for Kubernetes provides faster DR setup via a guided wizard, continuous readiness visibility through centralized monitoring/reporting, rapid recovery with SnapMirror failover/failback, and consistent protection across on‑premises, hybrid, and cloud. This results in fewer manual runbooks/scripting and less downtime risk for Kubernetes operators.

For Kubernetes operators, this reduces runbook sprawl and manual steps, tightens RTOs by speeding up cutover and restore operations, and provides a clearer signal on whether workloads are protected.
Specific key features include:
Guided Replication Plan Wizard: The guided replication plan wizard simplifies protecting Kubernetes workloads. The user-friendly interface lets you quickly set up replication plans, ensuring your Kubernetes environment is protected against potential disasters.
Centralized Monitoring and Reporting: With centralized monitoring and reporting, you can keep a close eye on your Kubernetes deployments. This feature provides you with comprehensive insights into the status and health of your disaster recovery setup, ensuring that you are always informed about the readiness of your infrastructure.
Fast Failover: In the event of a disaster, you can rely on SnapMirror to quickly fail over to the destination site, bringing your operations back online with minimal downtime. Once failed over, you can swiftly reestablish protection and prepare for failback. When it is convenient, initiating a failback to move back to the source infrastructure is straightforward and efficient.
Support for Diverse Deployments: NetApp Disaster Recovery supports a variety of deployment scenarios, including on-prem to on-prem ONTAP deployments, as well as hybrid and cloud-based deployments on AWS. This flexibility ensures that you can protect your Kubernetes workloads regardless of where your infrastructure is hosted.
Enhanced Support for OpenShift Virtualization VMs
We are also excited to highlight our robust support for OpenShift Virtualization VMs. Trident Protect enables snapshots, backups, restores, and disaster recovery of applications and VMs on an OpenShift cluster. For OpenShift Virtualization VMs, data that can be protected with Trident Protect includes Kubernetes resource objects associated with the VMs, persistent volumes, and internal images.
What's Next
Looking ahead, we are excited to introduce support for resource transformations and failover testing. These upcoming features will further enhance NetApp Disaster Recovery's capabilities, providing even more robust solutions for protecting your Kubernetes environment. Additionally, we are working on a dedicated user experience for OpenShift Virtualization, enabling our users to manage and protect their OpenShift Virtualization VMs with even greater ease and efficiency.
