What is BlueXP Alerts?

BlueXP Alerts is a service designed to help you stay informed about issues and potential risks in your NetApp ONTAP environment. Whether you're managing on-premises NAS or SAN storage, BlueXP Alerts provides a consolidated view and drill down into storage issues.

Prerequisites

Before you can start using BlueXP Alerts, ensure your environment meets the following requirements:

  • ONTAP Version: NetApp ONTAP 9.10 or later.
  • Cluster Admin Permissions: Necessary for cluster discovery in BlueXP.
  • BlueXP Working Environment: A configured Standard BlueXP connector for your on-premises NAS or SAN storage.
  • BlueXP Organization: Active connector connecting ONTAP clusters to the BlueXP organization.

Getting Started with BlueXP Alerts

  • Review Prerequisites: Ensure your environment is ready by reviewing the standard BlueXP requirements and verifying you have the necessary permissions and configurations.
  • Set Up the Connector: Create a BlueXP connector by referring to the BlueXP documentation. Add your working environment(s) and wait approximately 15 minutes for the initial discovery.
  • Access BlueXP Alerts: Log into the BlueXP console using your NetApp support site credentials. From BlueXP canvas navigate to the “Monitoring” section from the left navigation and select “Alerts” to view the alerts list page.

Using BlueXP Alerts

BlueXP Alerts offers various functionalities to monitor your storage environment effectively. The BlueXP alerts service is a core component of BlueXP. The BlueXP alerts service monitors ONTAP clusters and receives alert data from ONTAP. BlueXP alerts is available only in the BlueXP SaaS environment.

The Alerting page in BlueXP can be accessed through the Alerts menu item which is available under the Monitoring section of the left navigation bar as shown below.

The Alerts page in BlueXP shows all the alerts received from the alerting service in BlueXP, BlueXP alerts service enables you to view issues or potential risks in your NetApp on-premises ONTAP environments using the standard BlueXP Connector. With the service, you can drill into details using NetApp System Manager.  Wait a maximum of 15 minutes for initial discovery and after that a maximum of 5 minutes for alerts to appear. This varies from alert to alert.

This is a listing page where a user can see 50 recent active alerts and use the pagination provided below the table to see more alerts. This page shows the alerts from all the clusters to which the user has permission in the selected organization.

Viewing and Filtering Alerts:

  • Change the sort order by clicking the arrow in a column.
  • Filter columns to display specific information. For example, to view alerts related to capacity, click the filter icon in the Impact Area column, select Capacity, and then click Apply.
  • Download a CSV file containing up to 1000 alerts for offline analysis.
  • Drilling into Alert Details: Select an alert to view its details. This includes information about the issue, suggested corrective actions, and any additional alerts related to the same object.

On clicking the alert-name hyperlink in the alerts list page, users are navigated to the detailed view of the alert, which provides further details related to the alert.

This page furnishes information regarding the reasons behind the alert's activation and the specific conditions that led to it. Also, gives guidance on resolving the problem described by the alert.

You can view alerts associated with your ONTAP storage environment and drill into the details. From the alert, click on the object name at the top of the page, BlueXP System Manager now shows you information about the cluster.
