I am assuming that these transfers used to complete without needing the options to allow job monitoring to completion. This could be a temporary issue, but if it continues to occur I recommend opening support case to determine a cause and workaround/fix.

These are hidden options and thus are not documented. Their default values are 10 and 300 respectively. C:\>dfm option set dpMaxGetStatusRetries=40 Changed the max number of retries for the NDMP_SVS_GET_STATUS request to check if a data transfer is complete on a secondary filer to 40. C:\>dfm option set dpGetStatusRetryInterval=400 Changed the time between two NDMP_SVS_GET_STATUS requests to check if a data transfer is complete on a secondary filer to 400. If you are using these options, there is potentially an issue causing the protection relationship to not complete within the normal/expected time frame. By using these options you are asking UM to wait longer and/or try additional times to get the status of the transfer.

This option would be disabled if your server was upgraded from a version prior to DFM 3.8. Enabling it will only affect newly created volumes, not any existing volumes. And it will not affect VSM destinations until 5.1, where that support was added - in all previous versions of DFM/UM it only affects SV and QSM secondaries. In versions prior to 5.1 (or 5.1 and later with DSS disabled), VSM destinations are created to the size of the containing aggregate with no guarantee, then reduced in size and expanded as needed. The main problem with this behavior is the limit of how large a volume can be versus the aggregate size, which is the issue you are running into.

Upgrade to UM 5.1 or 5.2RC1 where it uses DSS (Dynamic Secondary Sizing) for VSM volumes. This will prevent it from attempting to create it to the size of the containing aggregate. WARNINGS: Always create a backup (dfm backup create) prior to upgrading. When upgrading to 5.1 or later you must choose a mode for UM to operate in (7DOT or cDOT) - if you have both modes in your environment you need two servers for UM. UM 5.2 and higher will only be delivered as 64 bit.

DFM/UM cannot alert on a link break, although I am not sure that is causing your lack of alerts. Check the evevnttype list for any events that might be useful in logging an event, which are mandatory for generating an alert/triggering an alarm. I do not recall any SAS specific events but do not have CLI access at the moment.

Of what you posted I would guess moving the volumes is the cause. Did you move the primary volumes? If those were moved, did you rerun the SME configuration wizard afterwards? SME is keeping track of what it added to the dataset and requests specific updates to those relationships. It is not requesting updates to the primary node of the dataset, so having working relationships within the application dataset will not get integration backups if SME is requesting protection of different sources. As long as the SnapVault relationships work manually and the source matches with what SME is expecting/requesting they should be fine.

There is not currently any CLI or UI method to de-associate storage from a host service. RFE 570891 exists to add that feature - please open a support case and have it attached. Thanks, Kevin

As Adai posted, this is ONTAP looking up the DFM/UM server for auto-registration. ONTAP 8.1 and higher performs this check and there is no control over the behavior. You will need to add the SRV record in DNS similar to this: Domain: <Domain name> Service: _dfm Protocol: _tcp Priority: 0 Weight: 100 Port Number: 8088 RFE 402136 was filed to improve the behavior of this feature and bug 711486 was filed to correct the error message. Please open a support case and request that it be attached to one or both of the above. Kevin

Hello, you do indeed require a $0 license key to install OnCommand Unified Manager Core - perhaps your reseller better knows this by one of it's former names - "DFM" / "Operations Manager". Support cannot generate this license key - I suggest you ask your reseller open a non-technical case to get more information. If you get a (non-technical) case # you can post it back here and I can add details to the case notes that will assist them in this process. Thanks, Kevin

Hi Calvin, In order to alert on lag for external relationships, you will need to follow this plan: Monitoring Existing SnapMirror/SnapVault Relationships with Protection Manager I am frequently asked "How do I monitor existing Data Protection relationships without importing them fully into Protection Manager ?" https://communities.netapp.com/people/fenton/blog/2010/04/14/monitoring-existing-snapmirrorsnapvault-relationships-with-protection-manager And to confirm, DFM/UM does not manage SMSQL VSM relationships nor any SMVI protection relationships. OnCommand Unified Manager 5.x uses the OnCommand Host Package for ESX backup management. Thanks, Kevin

Hi Jeff, I am not certain if UM 6.0 will behave in the same manner as UM 5.x in this regard as UM 6.0 is a rewrite, not an upgrade from UM 5.x code. If you are able, I recommend that you participate in the beta and provide feedback. Thanks, Kevin

Hi Frank, Under your original thread from 2.0.2 someone posted a solution a week ago: https://communities.netapp.com/message/105296#105296 Just right click the top bar in ie10 and click menu bar. On the menu bar click tools - compatibility view settings Add 127.0.0.1 or set all sites to run in compatibility settings. Assuming you are using IE10, have you tried this action plan yet? The Release Notes state the following regarding IE10: https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMP1153690 • 32-bit or 64-bit Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7 • Internet Explorer 10.0 in compatibility mode (for Windows) The Release Notes also state that only Java 7 is supported: • 32-bit or 64-bit Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7 The System Manager installer will install the version that matches your host OS - in this case x64. Therefore you can remove the 32 bit Java. Thanks, Kevin

Hi Bill, It sounds to me as if you are attempting to get NBU to manage the 2240 as a virtual tape library. This is not possible, at least with any software that NetApp provides. You can read about the NBU Plugin software details in this guide, specifically pages 5-8: https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMP1155087 The NBU Plugin (installed on your DFM/UM server) will allow Symantec Replication Director to manage snapshot backups on the controller via DFM/Unified Manager. Thanks, Kevin

Hello, The ISG states that OnCommand Unified Manager Core should only be installed on a server by itself. In the next release the guide will clarify this guidance to state that it should be on its own server in any situation (not for a given node installation) or with the Unified Manager Host Package (used for backing up ESX virtual objects in 7-Mode environments). For optimal performance, you should install the Core Package software on a dedicated system, especially if you are managing more than 30 storage systems with the DataFabric Manager server. https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMP1113536 p39 I am not sure what result you were attempting to get by installing DFM/UM on the NBU Master server. Can you clarify? Thanks, Kevin

Alain, 1) It is not possible to import relationships into a virtual dataset (those that use the Host Service/OCHP via vCenter to backup ESX datastores). 2) OCHP was not tested nor designed to backup data hosted on vFilers (Multistore). 3) As of OCHP 1.3, it will be able to restore backups to NFS hosted datastores that the UM server cannot reach, however Multistore support is not planned for any release of OCHP. Alain, 1) User gets an error “Error: Destination directory \\<cifs-share> does not exist” while setting Destination Directory to a CIFS share path. –Add a user having privileges on the CIFS share as an “administrator” on the DFM station. –Set the DFM Server service “Log On as” user as the above user. –Add this user to the DFM with GlobalFullControl role. 2) Not able to create backups from Web UI if database backup Destination Directory is set to a CIFS share. –Add a user having privileges on the CIFS share as an “administrator” on the DFM station. –Set the DFM Scheduler service “Log On as” user as the above user. –Add this user to the DFM with GlobalFullControl role. 3) DFM/UM backups can be located on NAS, but for CIFS they need to be in a subfolder of the share, not the root of the share. This information will be added to a forthcoming KB. Thanks, Kevin

There is no place to see that in Unified Manager. System Manger can display the used space in a LUN as returned via an API call to ONTAP, although I do not believe that it will show the same value as the hosting OS for the LUN due the differences in what ONTAP is tracking for the LUN. Kevin

Hi Alain, you would need a SAN license to use this functionality and that license has not been available for many years, nor is it supported any longer. The primary use of the NHA today is to allow OnCommand Unified Manager Core to manage OSSV services. Thanks, Kevin

One of the SNMP tests must pass in order to add that host to UM. You might find this KB useful: Operations Manager fails to add a system due to SNMP timeout https://kb.netapp.com/support/index?page=content&id=2015765

Hi Daniel, you must first add the physical controller hosting a vFiler before UM can add or manage a vFiler. In this case it appears you are attempting to add a a V-Series controller - SNMP must be working between the UM server and the controller to be added. Run the host diag as the error suggests and you will most likely find that the SNMP tests fail. Either SNMP v1 or v3 must pass in order to add the controller. Thanks, Kevin.
