Is there somewhere full list of supported URL for configuration upload/download? Documentation mentions FTP and HTTP (in example only - nowhere is it stated explicitly). Some BURTs mention also TFTP and HTTPS/FTPS 🙂 Today FTP is often disabled and HTTP requires some setup that is not always present. Using SCP/SFTP would be the most simple option but from quick test (8.2.1 SIM) it is not recognized.

"secondary" == "destination" "primary" == "source" You are apparently using Open Systems SnapVault, in this case primary is "normal" host (Windows/Unix) and secondary is FAS (always).

not sure what you mean by "permitted". Supported by NetApp. I've done that hundreds of times (online). That does not matter. What matters - will NetApp accept responsibility for service interruption/data corruption if it happens?

Do you have reference to NetApp documentation that says this change is permitted online? Changes that affect disk path access were never officially approved.

Like in 7-Mode there is undocumented possibility to dump to a file which can then be transferred to remote location. Like in 7-Mode it is recommended to contact support if you are going to use any undocumented features ... 🙂 And, BTW, in C-Mode disk pull is not an alternative - there is no known way to incorporate foreign disks without losing content. So what you can really do is to borrow small filer (FAS22xx) and snapmirror onto it, transfer to remote location, snapmirror from it. I have done it more than once in 7-Mode in the past.

Unless i'm misspeaking, perfstat 8 is only for cDot.. perfstat8 (converged perfstat) supports 8.1 and 8.2 7-Mode. Actually, perfstat7 does not support 8.2 at all. So there must be something else. I would open case with LATX support to investigate (or try posting on netapp tools in private communities).

I stay corrected, your shelves are cabled fine. So it appears to be cosmetic display problem. It could be result of adding new shelf from "wrong" side. I am fairly confident that after reboot it will be shown in the right order. P.S. usual practice is to alllocate consequitive shelf numbers in a stack, like 10, 11, 12, ... for a first stack, 20, 21, 22, ... for a second stack etc. It makes it easier to find the right shelf and follow cables when on site. It would also make it obvious which shelf is on "top" in your case :).

It really looks like channel A is miscabled. To give definitive answer "sysconfig -a" and "environment status shelf" would be needed (they show SAS cables serial numbers) - unless you are using optical connection.

Yes, as long as the IC link is up, ONTAP will perform the takeover (or at least attempt to). Please read what I wrote: "One location completely loses power". Somebody puledl the mains plug in computer room. How can IC be up when partner is no more present?

It doesn't matter how far apart the SMC controllers are, as long as they are within acceptable SMC limits ONTAP will still fail over correctly. In SMC, regardless of the distance, MCTB doesn't provide any value. My be I miss something obvious here, but - SMC in two locations. One location completely loses power. Both shelves and controller at the same time. Will partner takeover in this case? As soon as MCTB detects a takeover state on either controller, or a transition between takeover states, it will refuse to take any action. This is by design, as MCTB cannot be allowed to interfere with normal takeover operations. That's true, but as far as I understand situation here, partner never completed takeover. Probably because half of mailboxes suddenly were lost. That's probably complicated situation that requires coordination between DOT and MCTB; I would expect DOT to fail takeover and MCTB then kicking in. So it could be primarily DOT issue here.

Space_alloc enables notifications to host about low space condition. I do not know which hosts support it (I believe symantec does but I'm not sure).

With FR set to 100% the full current LUN size is reserved on volume when snapshot is taken. If there is not enough space to reserve, snapshot creation fails. So in the worst case volume size needs to be twice LUN size plus any space for snapshots.

To ensure that LUN does not go offline space reservation must be enabled and fractional reserve set to 100%. In all other cases you must monitor volume for free space and take appropriate actions when required.

Log in using CLI and run "cifs terminate" followed by "cifs setup". Authenticating as root requires plain text support which is normally disabled by default on modern windows clients. You need to create additional local users for CIFS. You probably already have at least one - local admin. Check with useradmin command.

I believe I found it. Replacing 500GB disk with 1TB disk will cause total physical capacity of aggregate to exceed 16TB and this is not allowed in Data ONTAP 7.2 You actually must have seen "The reconstruction cannot start in RAID group [raid group]: Operation would make volume too big" in logs ... So yes, replacing one of 1TB spare disks with 500GB disk would help in this case. Or you could upgrade to 7.3 which does not count parity disks against total physical capacity ...

So...how can i find the failed ones? You can find it by comparing ASUP before failure or reading logs. But it is the wrong question - what really matters is not which of spare drives was part of aggregate, but why aggregate reconstruction does not start.

aggr0 has no spare disks. spares are always global; they do no belong to aggregate. How can I force a spare disk on an aggr0? You can't add disk to aggregate as spare. You can add disk as additional data/parity, but that does not help in this case. Looking at logs (starting) at the time of disk failure may give some hints.
