Hi Jeff, I think you have already done and would recommend you to use the Admin Guide. Pls find my responses inline. - Am I missing a good manual? Pls use the Admin Guide - Should the snmpv1 login be able to query for qtrees? If not, what type of user is needed? Cluster? One for each vServer? more than read-only? what method(s)? Yes, if either of snmpv1 or v3 is working that should be fine. - If a cluster user is needed, and the application method is HTTPS - could the self-signed certs be an issue? As long as the cluster admin user is used its sufficient. - Is the "XML (http port 443) HTTP POST - failed, status code = 0" in the host diag pertinent? (dfm-user is only read-only so I do not think this is a surprising error) Once credentials are set for a cluster esp the qtree information is got via xml. So xml failing is my hunch why qtrees aren't getting discovered. - Is there a plugin needed to see Qtrees? Is there a ClusterMode plugin needed (anytime I see vFiler I have to wonder if that is ClusterMode aware) No. Plugins are not required Just to make this post even longer here's another question: What is the difference between Operations Manager and OnCommand console? Is OpMgr just the older interface, which still has all the capabilities, but is/will be replaced by Console? Yes. OnCommand Console refers to the new UI and the default UI. Operations Manager Console refers to the old Web UI Regards adai

Hi Jaspreet, Here is the cli to set snapsched snap sched [ vol_name [ weeks [ days [ hours [ @list ] ] ] ] ] Sets the schedule for automatic snapshot creation. The argument vol_name identifies the volume the schedule should be applied to. The second argument indicates how many weekly snapshots should be kept on-line, the third how many daily, and the fourth how many hourly. If an argument is left off, or set to zero, then no snapshot of the corresponding type is created. Daily snapshots are created at 24:00 of each day except Sunday, and weekly snapshots are created at 24:00 on Sunday. Only one snapshot is created at a time. If a weekly snapshot is being created, for instance, no daily or hourly snapshot will be created even if one would otherwise be scheduled But do note that daily and weekly snapshots get created only @ midnight and sunday midnight respectively. There is no way to specify a time for both. If you need to specify a time you can use Protection Manager or other tools. Regards adai

Hi Dan, Creating an alarm at a global group level applies to all groups and it subgroups as well. Similarly if you create your alarm at a top level group its applied to all it sub group as well. In this case you can either create your alarms at global group or create a top level group and apply it. Regards adai

Hi Keith, You haven't qualified your volume names, that being the reason you weren't able to add it. If your intentions is to add multiple volumes and if they are from them same aggr/filer instead of adding the volume individually you could rather add the aggr or the filer. This way of adding an aggr or filer to a dataset is called indirect referencing. Regards adai

Hi The Secondary Volume provisioning Algorithm in a nut shell is 1.32x the source volume total size if the used space is < 60% 2.2x the source volume used size if used space is >60% We dont look for size of a qtree and always look for the size of the containing volume as that's the max the qtree can grow. Also when a second qtree from the same volume is added we dont do any resize as its already accounted. For more details on provisioning algorithm take a look at this doc https://communities.netapp.com/docs/DOC-3256 Regards adai

Hi Thomas, The resize_Up_only cant be tuned. Also the DSS for Backup and Mirror Node is controlled by the same option.(dpDynamicSecondarySizing). As said earlier this message should go away in your next subsequent update. Are you still seeing the issue ? IF you think this message shouldnt be marked as Warning pls do open a RFE. Regards adai

Hi Barry, Are you talking about the schedules in Protection Manager or in Operations Manager. In case of PM you should be able to handle this. But since in case of Ops Mgr its just based on the date of the month. So if you select 30 then you will not get a report for February. Regards adai

Hi Francois, - Provisioning more flexible, with compression , vol autosize on SAN prov, snap autodelete for NAS and SAN as well. As you know for NAS we allow Autogrow and Auto Delete to be indepedentaly slected starting OCUm 5.1. There are no changes in OCUM 5.2. You can check the same in the BETA Pages https://communities.netapp.com/docs/DOC-22967 - Some snapshots not purged / deleted on secondary and primary Can you raise a case, seems like an issue. - Events and database not purged correctely. (probably fixed in 5.2) Yes. - Conform multiple Dataset in one action You should be able to script it using cli or linux one liners - Cannot provision NAS Dataset with volume imported or added manually Yes, this is not there in 5.2 as well. - Current space breakout display wrong (LUN Information on NAS prov dataset) IIRC this is fixed in OCUM 5.1 http://support.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=493743 Regards adai

Hi Dan, Let me see if I understood your problem correctly. You are creating a volume with name say vol1, then deleting the same and latter trying to create with same volume name vol1 right ? DFM takes 1 hour before it can mark-delete an object in its database even after the object is deleted on the controller. This was done as a means to prevent snmp discrepancies or timeouts. I suggest you modify your workflow to query the controller for unique names to recreate volumes instead of relying on OCUM as there is no way to fasten this process of mark-deletion. Even though you can refresh the monitoring using dfm-api-refresh or dfm host discover you will still have to wait for 1 hour. Regards adai

Hi Tom, I need some more details, Whats version and mode of OCUM What Version is of ONTAP is the controller running ? Can you give an example of screenshot for a controller that's working and one which isn't ? What kind of disk are those ? The ones which arent being reported ? Like type of disk, size etc ? what is the dfm host diag for the controller returning ? Regards adai

Hi Markus, Unfortunately we don't collect this data. At the time when OCUM 5.1 was developed for ONTAP 8.1, nfs counters werent available via counter manager. Though later versions of ONTAP do provide that OCUM doesn't collect it. Take A look at the following course that details the same. http://learningcenter.netapp.com/LC?ObjectType=WBT&ObjectID=00241305 Regards Adai

Hi, This feature is coming in OCUM 5.2. Which is already in BETA. But for now there is no direct way. Though there are some indirect ways of doing it. Hi suggest you to open a case with support they should be able to help you restore only the db files and not performance data. Regards Adai

Hi Tom, What do you mean by physical disk? Are you looking for unassigned disk? If so dfm doesn't report on them. You can also look at disks-all report. Regards Adai

Hi Matty, I'm a little confused by the 100% number. In the case of LUN paths, does that mean 100% of our LUN paths older than 3 days are marked to be deleted? It means that all mark-deleted lun are older than 3 days. Or in other words 100% of the lun were mark-deleted by dfm monitor are older than 3 days. BTW pls take a database backup before the purge. Also I strongly recommend you to read the KB article Regards adai

Hi Its possible. Follow these steps. Before that I assume you are already able to see the 2 mirror relationship in the External Relationship Pagel Create a empty dataset Apply Chain of two mirror policy to the above dataset Goto the external relationship page and select the mirror from second mirror to tertiary Import the above into the second leg/connection of the dataset Complete the import wizard. Again goto external relationship page and select the mirror from primary to secondary Import the above into the first leg/connection of the dataset Complete the import wizard Regards adai

Hi Chao, The default threshold for snapmirror:nearly-out-of-date is 1.5days or 36hours and snapmirror:out-of-date is 2days or 48 hours. If you want to get the alerts based on your scheduling then you will have to import them to dataset and define new lag times based on scheduling for each dataset. Regards adai

Hi Brano, A good idea to run the tool is when you have atlesat as much deleted objects as your live objects. The reason I say this is because you need to schedule a downtime. So its worth doing it when you get the most out of it. In order to help you find that the KB article under section 5.2 says the following. You can find the number of current live objects of each type in your DFM server by going to the group summary page as below http://<your dfm server name-or-ip>:8080/dfm/ -or- https://<your dfm server name-or-ip>:8443/dfm/ Regards adai
