Hi Saran, Looks like something is wrong and some needs to really try it in-house to find whats happening. Can you also provide us with the version of DFM that you are running. Regards adai

Hi Marco, Attached is the detailed procedure to do the same. ( Lately I have done this for atleast 4 other large customers) Terminology: Current Server: The server currently running all functionality, like Ops-Mgr, Prot-Mgr, Prov-Mgr & Performance Adviser. PA Only Server: The new server on which we will restore the db created from Current Server and delete all DataSet. PM Server:The new incarnation of the Current server where Performance Adviser will be disabled and flat files will be deleted. Pre-Requisite: New OnCommand Core License Key for the PA Only Server 2 Servers, one Linux server for temporary purpose and another windows server for Final PA server Cavets: One should do this in lab first before doing it in production. So you can estimate how much time this process will take. Also linux is preferred to do all the manipulation as I don't have the equivalent windows cli automation. Any one who can give me the equivalent windows ones are welcomed and much appreciated. Also Linux is faster in doing lot of database related actions that we do. All the manipulation should be done by isolating the linux server from network so that it cant reach the controller and there by no relationships is deleted. Known and should Ignore: During the process of manipulation, You will still see job getting spawned and error out. This is fine as we have already isolated the network on the temp controller and they cant reach the controllers. Order in which Steps Should be performed. Current Server: Do steps 2 to 8 Temp Sever:Install OCUM 5.1 Temp Server:Disable/Isolate its network so that it cant reach controller but you can ssh/telnet to the server Temp Server:Do steps 12 to 31 PA only server:Install OCUM 5.1 PA only server:Do Steps 33 & 34 PM Server(Re-Incarnation of Current Server):Do steps 9 & 10. Regards adai

Hi, Looking at your screenshots everything looks fine. Can you see if any dfm services are running using task manager and kill them if any ? Let me download the 5.1 64bit windows version and see if there is any problem with the binary. Regards adai

Hi Kuber, I recommend you open a case with NGS so that they can do all data collection and figure out why the group shows up with error status. Sorry that I couldn't help you. Regards adai

Hi Bryan, What does your dfm host get <cluster-name> return esp in the hostPrimaryIPAddress field ? There was a logic built in DFM to go & pick the clus_mgmt IP automatically from cluster. This was done to handle the clusters which were added using the node mgmt IP and not the cluster_mgmt lif. Looks like this seems to have a side effect. Maybe the non-routable IP shows up 1st in the list of clus_mgmt ZAPI o/p and that gets swapped with the routable IP. Can you pls open a case with NGS ? Regards adai

Hi Bryan, Yes you are correct, we gather all information for clustered data ontap using the cluster_mgmt lif and cluster admin user. Regards adai

Hi Craig, The reason why aggr with 69% is selected could be because of Load Balancing. The resource selection algorithm also uses a defined space margin with a default value of 75. The goal of the space margin is to ensure variability of the selected aggregate so that selection is not automatically limited to the one least-utilized or best-fit aggregate. With the Least-Utilized algorithm, the space margin ensures that the aggregate with the largest free space will not always be selected, instead, it expands the suitable aggregates to those with free space of at least 75% of the largest aggregate. After Space Balancing we have one more step called load balancing in order to actually select the one aggregate for the provisioning request. Load balancing would select the aggregate with the lower number of qtrees for a primary node or the lower number of relationships if these were a secondary node. Hope this helps. Soon we will have a videos explaining/Detailing the Provisioning Algorithms. Regards adai

Hi Marco, Before I upload the doc I need some more info. What is the current version of OCUM that this server is Running ? Is this a Windows or linux server ? How Many Dataset/Relationship are being managed ? How many controllers are being monitored ? Once I get the answers for these question I will upload the Migration doc. Regards adai

Hi Daniel, OnCommand Unified Manager doesnt talk to a vfiler directly. It does all of that by talking to the parent filer or the hosting filer. In your case you need to add the IP address of the Controller and not the vfiler. Regards adai

Hi Alan, This is good suggestion we will incorporate this in our guide for upcoming releases. Thinks to keep in mind the entire OCUM is based on NetWork. If your WAN/Network is not reliable you will have lot of false events/alarms. You may tune some of the timeout values to over come WAN un-reliability but there is no guarantee that you would avoid false event or alerts by doing this. [root@dfm ~]# dfm options list | grep -i monSNMP monSNMPRetries 4 monSNMPTimeout 90 [root@dfm ~]# You can increase these values appropriately. Regards adai

Hi, NHA is not mandatory for an OSSV installation. But it does provides the ability to remotely ( from NMC of OCUM) to start or stop OSSV services instead of logging into each OSSV host individually. Other than that NHA doesnt provide any functionality to OSSV Hope this helps. Regards adai

Hi Fletch, DataMotion does not support mixed block type aggr. Also the question you posted here is more appropriate in the ONTAP forum than OnCommand. As you may get more response there than here. Regards adai

Hi Dan, Are you trying to create/route alarms based on site names ? If so pls create your volume full alert at each site name group level. Regards adai

Hi Jeff, DFM collects/Discover objects in controller via multiple protocols. We use a combination of SNMP,API, SSH,Http etc to discover objects. In ClusterMode we use API to discover qtree unlike volumes which are discovered via SNMP Regards adai

Hi Jean, Typically the db-reload time is included in the purge estimation itself. You can monitor the progress of the db reload in the following files. The unload of tables can be monitored by 'tail -f' on <inst>/log/dbunload.log Regards adai

Hi Marco, You have hit the nail on the head. The retiring of Protection Mgr is very critical and needs to be done on the OM Server. Also given that 2 instance of DFM server will be hitting the same set of controller you will have to tone down the monitoring. Pls refer to the following document for the monitors to turn off for PA only monitoring. Customizing OnCommand/DFM server for Performance Advisor (PA) only functionality. In the mean time pls stay tuned I will give you the detailed steps on how to do this with no impact or downtime. Regards adai
