Factory Reset to allow for Shelf ID change

Quick question, we have noticed the NS224 shelf IDs on the cluster have not been set to those in the design doc. While I know it will require the controllers to be reset ( they are base configured with only e0M and root aggs  )  can someone advise the order of steps to reset the system and adjust the shelf ID ( basically take the controller back to having come out the box ).

Thanks

Internal shelves of controllers (like AFF A250, AFF A800) are hard-coded to ID = 00.

When setting NS224 shelf IDs that are attached to controllers with integrated (internal) storage, always start with 01 or higher. Make sure shelf IDs are unique within an HA pair, at least.

Hello,

By default you cna change your shelf ID, the only way is to power down your NetApp controlers, after change the Shelf ID, reboot the shel and after power up the controlers

They will retreive the shelf and those disk

So to be clear, if I shutdown the nodes, change the shelf IDs and power cycle the shelves, then reboot the nodes it will just pickup the new shelf IDs  and there will be no issues with disk ownership ?

No issue with the disk ownership when you change the ID, after the installation the ownership is writed on the disk

But see the post TMACMD :

You can only change the NS224 shelf id when it is an EXTERNAL shelf. Unless something has changed recently, if the platform is:

FAS500f

AFF A250

AFF C250

you cannot change the shelf id!

It must be attached as a second shelf.
After the shelf id is set, halt the two NetApp controllers attached to the shelf.  the shelf must be power cycled. (Turn it off and wait! for it to fully shut down 10-30 seconds!). After the shelf reboots and you have confirmed the shelf id then reboot (bye at the loader prompt) the controllers.

verify shelf ids now! I’ve seen edge cases where the shelf id was picked up as a serial number. Do a take over and give back each way to correct if needed

You need to long press the shelf id button to modify the id you want, and then restart the shelf, the controller will automatically retrieve the shelf to get the new id, you can refer to this link
