CIFS shares migration 7-mode to a Legacy storage and then back to NetApp ONTAP 9

I'm wondering to prepare a migration of CIFS shares (with it's permissions) currently in Data ONTAP 8.2.x 7-mode to a temporary NAS storage (not a NetApp) and then migrate back to the source NetApp once upgraded to ONTAP 9. Basically the idea here is repurpose a FAS2520 upgrading it to ONTAP 9. So, Is it possible to do this process, keeping the file permissions integrity? Which tool do you recommend to do this double migration? Thanks in advance!

I recommend you to keep your data on the NetApp while upgrading it.

Hi Mjzzini

Thanks for your reply. So, in that scenario, there's not guarantee to migrate the data without lose file permissions integrity.

I saw also about xdp or Robocopy but I don't if they will work from NetApp(7-mode)-to-any and then, any-to-NetApp (ONTAP 9). Please let me know if they could be at least work just to keep the data at least. Thanks!
