The quick answer to your question is YES. In some cases, this is the exact reason WFA is so useful. That is, its ability to extend into non-storage related tasks. There are plenty of examples on the communities where WFA workflows facilitate functions in 3rd party products.
Bottom line is that if there is an API... or CLI... it's possible to have WFA automate actions on that system.
