Hi,

I'm fairly new to NetApps productlines and storage management. I'm looking forward towards a PoC and eying a demo application (probably in Java) with Data ONTAP simulator.

Pls guide and help. A couple of basic and simple operations is what I need to do right now.

You could take a look at our getting started demo series for storage management.

vSims are available for download from our NOW web-site

Thanks Amrita!

But I'm eying a demo that should do probably the simplest file operation that Operations Manager is capable of doing (anything that you suggest) by using the NM SDK. The documentation is quite comprehensive and has already put me into a lot of confusion.

Any help on that front would be highly appreciated.

Hi rksindwani

Welcome to the communities - probbaly the best way to get started is to get a copy of the ONTAP Simulator and use System Manager 1.1 in order to familiarise yourself with the basic operations.

If you are an existing customer/partner you should be able to download both of these from NOW at the following links:

Systems Manager - https://now.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/software/?product=System+Manager&platform=Windows

ONTAP Simulator - http://now.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/simulator

This will get you started with the basics and Systems Manager will let you setup and perform the basic administration

Cheers

Thanks Venkat!!!

I activated http license.

Now, when I run "options httpd ", it shows the following

httpd.admin.enable           on
httpd.admin.hostsequiv.enable off
httpd.admin.max_connections  512
httpd.admin.ssl.enable       off
httpd.admin.top-page.authentication on
httpd.autoindex.enable       off
httpd.bypass_traverse_checking off
httpd.enable                 off

I'm not able to access FilerView through http after activating the license.  httpd.enable should be ON but right now its OFF, how can I put it ON???

Pls help!!!!

hi rksindwani

try this

"options httpd.enable on"

set httpd.admin.ssl.enable as ON too

"options httpd.admin.ssl.enable on"

and check if the option is set by "options httpd"

check if the entries look similar too as mentioned in other community link.

#options httpd

httpd.access                 legacy
httpd.admin.access           legacy
httpd.admin.enable           on
httpd.admin.hostsequiv.enable off
httpd.admin.max_connections  512
httpd.admin.ssl.enable       on
httpd.admin.top-page.authentication on
httpd.autoindex.enable       on
httpd.enable                 on

httpd.log.format             common     (value might be overwritten in takeover)
httpd.method.trace.enable    off
httpd.rootdir                XXX
httpd.timeout                300        (value might be overwritten in takeover)
httpd.timewait.enable        off        (value might be overwritten in takeover)

this should help..

Thnx Venkat!

Have changed the values as per your suggestions, now they are matching.

Also, do I need to install a webserver on VM? Moreover, the ping to simulator ip is not working.

I'm sorry, my questions would be looking weird, but I'm trying to learn

I haven't been posting for a while, but have been lurking in the background...

Back to basics here.

Can you ping the host you are trying to use http from ? ( and vice versa ? )

What is the environ for your sim ... a VM ? Is it a 7.X or an 8.X sim ?

There are many posts here on communities that you may search to find the answers, but we love a 'Beginner' 'round here, and there are many to try and answer your questions.

We were all a 'NetApp Beginner' at one time.

For DOT 7.X sims on Linux hosts be sure that 'promiscuous mode' is enabled on the VM switch...

( This is the most common problem, sim is listening in prom mode, like a packet sniffer )

I hope this response has been helpful to you ...

Hi Eugene,

Thanks for coming out to help!!!

I'm not able to ping the simulator from my machine. Although ping is working both ways between my machine and the VM.

Its a VM environment with 7.x.

How to check the 'promiscuous mode' through telnet?

Thanks!

Rish
