Active IQ Unified Manager Discussions
Have setup two new filers.
Added them to Operations Manager 4.0.0. running on a Windows 2003 server machine.
Operations Manager found them but it is not reporting on volumes or any other data under File Systems.
It does show the Aggrs under Aggreagtes but I need to collect volume info and that does not show up under File Systems.
Any ideas?
Solved! See The Solution
resolved the issue finally WITHOUT upgrading to newest version of DFM...
Here is what I did...
Dfm service stop
Dfm service start sql
Dfm host delete -f <object_id_associated_with the filer>
Dfm service start
Dfm host add <filer_name_or_ip>
Both filers are reporting volume level info now.
What does the "dfm host diag <controller>" show? Did you also set the login and password for the new filers?
mmm..correct me if I am wrong but if the login and apsswrd was wrong how would it know about the aggrs on the two filers?
That's because for descovery of basic objects OM uses SNMP. Only for specific objects/functionalities OM requires API calls with username and password.

Niels..
Thanks. Did not know that.
Can you please tell me where I supply these credentials?
Hi,
You can use the CLI,
dfm host set , the column XML should be “Passed”

Pradeep..
Sorry but as you can well imagine total newbie here.
what do u mean by column XML should be "passed" ?
You can use the CLI, dfm host set host-id/host-ip/host-name hostlogin=username hostpassword=password.
And make sure in the output of dfm host diag host-id/host-ip/host-name, the column XML should be “Passed”
OK...that didn't work.
Anyone else has any other ideas?
Please share the exact version of DFM you are running.
Example:
C:\>dfm about |findstr -i version
Version 4.0.1.7545 (4.0.1D2)
C:\Documents and Settings>dfm about |findstr -i version
Version 4.0.0.6953 (4.0)
You will benefit from an upgrade to a version of DFM fixed for bug 367643, to ensure relaible SNMP monitoring of ONTAP 7.3.x and higher.
http://now.netapp.com/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Quick&bugs=367643
Backup DFM (dfm backup create) and then upgrade to 4.0.2D5, refresh the monitors against the host using the "dfm host discover FILER" command, and wait for new data to arrive.
http://now.netapp.com/NOW/download/software/dfm_win/4.0.2D5/
Oh I am sure there will be benefits but upgrading is not an option for me currently.
The only way to guarantee that you will get reliable data via SNMP is to use a DFM version fixed for bug 367643.
If that is not an option then you will have to wait to see if DFM can ever get that data from the affected filer.
Of course, this bug and information is not applicable if the ONTAP verison is older than 7.3.
All filers are running 8.02P2 OnTap
Sorry but I never replied to Pascal's intial inquiry but here is the diag output....

Regarding this monitor:
snapmirrorTimestamp Error 1 minute 30 minutes 27 Oct 14:29 Error 27 Oct 14:33
DFM collects a copy of the snapmirror logs (all of them) from every monitored host and then parses those logs. If snapmirror is enabled on these filers, I do no believe it is possible to do this work in 1 minute.
To set it back to the default, use the following command:
How to set DataFabric Manager (DFM) monitoring timestamps to default
https://kb.netapp.com/support/index?page=content&id=1010960
C:\> dfm option set snapmirrorMonInterval=
Bug 367643 is almost assuredly to blame for the missing volumes.
Pls do reset all monitoring to default value instead of the low values that you currently have. Also can get the output of dfm about to make sure that monitor is still running and dfm dint stop monitoring .
Regards
adai
how do you reset to default values?
and I did not understand the second part of your reply....
"Also can get the output of dfm about to make sure that monitor is still running and dfm dint stop monitoring ."
????
Execute the CLI Command “dfm about”, which gives details about the DFM . Also paste the output of “dfm service list”.
DFM needs 20% free space in the installation directory for monitoring, which we can get from dfm about.
