We have installed OnCommand Core on a Win 2k8R2 host running on ESX. 8GB/2 and 4 CPUs. Memory utilization seems OK but the CPU is getting killed. We tried increasing the vCPU count but it didn't seem to help the problem.
Anyone else tried to run this virtually? Any ideas why we are seeing such poor performance and/or how we can improve it? Oddly the OnCommand interface performs moderately well but as soon as we get into Operations Manager everything grinds to a halt.
We've already adjusted the dbCache in dfm but it didn't affect anything. The db is still only using about 450mb of memory regardless.

Hi
Can you reduce the nubmer of cpu from 4 to 1 and report on the performance ? How many controllers are you monitoring ? What all functionality of OnCommand are you using ?
Protection ? Provisioning ? Performance ? All ?

We are just using Core...I'm not sure if that is Performance or not. We are not using Protection or Provisioning.
We are monitoring 14 total controllers.
I will look at reducing the CPU count to 1 and see if that helps.

We reduced the CPU count to 1. Performance for OnCommand itself was actually still relatively responsive and we noticed little change going from 4 to 1 (similar to when we went from 4 to 2). Performance for OpsManager was awful and the CPU on the box was pegged at 100% almost constantly while we were using it.

Can you paste the output of dfm host diag ? to find if you have reduced any monitoring interval. Also can you guarntee(allocate) some memory to your VM instead of everything being dynamically being allocated.

I will check on the memory allocation. Did you mean dfm host diag? I can't run this command unless I put the hostname (or localhost) as an argument, but it gives no information about monitoring intervals.

Yup, run it with a hostname and mask your private info. If possible a dfm diag will also help.
