Hi all,
we actually have an dfm 5.0.2 (5.0.2P1) running on Linux VMware ClientOS and the conventional backup takes to long, so we want to the Snapdrive Backup feature.
Is there any known howto for the steps to go through ?
or is there anyone who has done this and wants to share Informations about

The key to configuring snapshot backups (after ensuring all your data is present on an ONTAP LUN) is to run the command "dfm backup diag ".

What are the DFM database backup types - file based vs. LUN?
cannot get the snapdrive working in my test environment:
2a. second try successfully created a fs,LUN.iGroup with # snapdrive storage wizard create
6. changed datastore location to the new LUN based fs with # dfm datastore setup /DFMdata
what have i done wrong, or do have to do some additional configuration tasks !?
even after create fs incl

i found a problem on mounting the iscsi LUN in fstab
changed the mount option to _netdev and it worked very well

Summary : The NetApp sanlun tool.
Description :
This package provides the sanlun tool to display information related to NetApp LUNs. It can also display information related to the HBAs on the Linux host connected to a fabric containing NetApp controllers.
Snapdrive is working fine on vmware fusion with an iscsi lun, after the update with confcheck_data.tar.gz.
But Implementing Snapdrive on an ESX Linux Guest with an RDM fcp LUN is not working (do not get Access to smvi) .
With our vmWare Environment we do not have the option to use smvi
So what can i do now, is it possible to use Snapdrive with an NFS mount from a Netapp ??
looks like a never ending story
Hosting the dfm database on NAS ( CIFS and NFS) location is not supported, as underlying database sybase does not qualify or support the same.
The DFM db either has to be local drive or SAN based storage.

okay, finished with that....:
you need to have:
SMVI connect (https)
have a user with access to VSC (vmware)
check all versions of VSC (vmware), Snapdrive (Netapp), Host Utilities (Netapp) with netapp support Matrix
freed all FW Port (Infrastructure)
need to get a disasterrecovery aware solution (snapmirror!?)
looks like a bit overloaded for this component, as it is not enabled to monitor clustered ontap and 7 mode (since 5.2) = more than one of these dfms if you have 7Mode and ClusterMode
Monitoring is not out of the box for all things of a filer (syslog, audit)
i think there are some things to improve monitoring for netapp, pls...
PS: if you are responsible for all components vmware/netapp/dfm/money this can be a useful solution, if not, try it and choose your solution.
