dfm migrate/upgrade to OnCommand Core in a VM

Hello NetApp folks,

This is my first post.

I would like to upgrade/migrate our current DFM (3.6) to OnCommand core (5.0.2) in a VM environment.

I was thinking to install OnCommand Core in a different server (VM) in parallel to current DFM (physical).

Export the DFM db and import it to OnCommand core. Is this possible?

I am new to this so, i would want to know the procedure to this (command).

Every help is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi

All you have to do is create a dfm backup in using dfm backup create cli  in DFM 3.6 restore the same using dfm backup restore cli in 5.0.2.

Pls note this upgrade would take a long time depending upon the history you have. Also DFM 4.0 for Performance Adviser introduced som file format

changes which will take a long time as well.

I instead suggest you to go 2 version at a time upgrade your existing 3.6 ->3.8.1->4.0.2->5.0.2

Good luck on getting this to work. I went thru a migration of DFM 3.6 to 5.1 and ran into all sorts of problems. Even NetApp didn't understand why it was not working properly. I ended up creating a VM running in parallel and started that install with a new database.

Ken

Hi Ken,

  • How did you migrate ? Can you describe the steps you performed ?
  • What was the error or problems that you encountered ?
