Flexclone for DR testing in Cloud

We are trying to test the DR scenario in AWS cloud. We have snapmirror configured and setup from on-prem array to CVO volumes in AWS. Can anyone provide me the steps to implement DR testing with flexclones in AWS?

Thanks!

The steps below will help with creating a FlexClone from the CLI:

https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/volumes/create-flexclone-task.html

Using System Manager:

https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap-sm-classic/online-help-96-97/task_creating_flexclone_volumes.htmlhttps://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/volumes/creat...

After this, you should be able to mount exports and access shares.

If this involves SAN, you will need to configure lun mapping.

Although DR usually implies that you would bring the destination volumes in to RW state rather than creating flex clones.

Hi Aladd,

Thanks for your reply. The purpose for cloning is to not disturb the existing snapmirror relationship. After I create the flexclone volume and use the mount command, it gives me an error for junction-path as it has also been used for the DP volume. In case I use different junction path, does it effect the way the client mounts it as it will be different in the test case scenario. Is this a way to configure the exact junction paths  for the shares that needs to be accessed from the created clone volume?

Usually in case of a DR without the implementation of flexclone volumes we use the exact same junction paths for the DP volumes when they were made RW.

Thanks,

Ravi.

@ravik,

As mention by @aladd, you can create a FlexClone volume from CLI and system manager but if you are using our Cloud Manager to manage your CVOs, you can go into your working environment and click on the volume you would like to clone and simply click clone on the volume.

Reference: Manage Existing Volumes - Cloud Manager CVO

Here is a blob that also gives you a video describing the cloning process in Cloud Manager.

Let us know if you have any follow up questions.

Thanks,

Brad
