Hi,  Can you explain the licensing model so we will know what we are paying for?

Hi Ally,

License structure for Cloud ONTAP:

There are 3 billable elements in Cloud ONTAP: The instance, the attached storage and the license fees.
The first two are on the cloud provider and are paid for by the customer account based on his contract.
The latter one is charged hourly, and based on the workload (As Mike pointed out) there’s a need to analyze

whether the customer can work with Cloud ONTAP running a few hours a day (Like in DR) or 24/7 (File serving).

That would go a long way towards deciding whether to go towards BYOL.

A license of BYOL covers ONE Cloud ONTAP instance running in the cloud and can support up to 360TB

of underlying capacity (Much more with storage efficiency). The license can be bought for a period of 6 or 12 months

and has to be renewed periodically.

There’s no direct equivalent but a calculation needs to be made on the hourly costs based on capacity needed and

the Modus Operandi of Cloud ONTAP per use case.

Hope that helps
