Failed to mount snapshot before the SMBR operation

Hi, I have installed SnapManager for Exchange on a Windows 2003 Server with Exchange 2007. The backups are working fine.

I have also installed SnapManager for Exchange on a management server running Windows 2008 server along with Snapdrive and Single Mailbox Recovery.

When trying to run SMBR from within SnapManager on the management server (pointed to the Exchange Server) I get an error when it tries to mount the Snapshot.

Failed to mount snapshot before the SMBR operation. Please check configuration.

I can use SnapDrive to mount the same Snapshot no problem.

It would appear from the error that it is trying to start the SnapManager service locally on the management server, which wont actually start.

Do you have the Exchange Management Tools installed on your SMBR management server? Officially, they are only required for the Mailbox Creation Wizard, but the SnapManager service (indeed) does not start without the exchange tools. That should solve your problem. Also, make sure a MAPI client (like Outlook) is installed on the SMBR server.
