Data Backup and Recovery
Data Backup and Recovery
Hi,
Just want to validate that the Front-End backup is using SMB (TCP445) port from the control agent to the different front-end servers to be open ?
Thanks.
Hi,
May I know what do you mean by front end backup and control agent?
Thanks,
-Sai
When backuping the Front-end, SMSP have to copy the files that resides on the web sites and in other places... I have seen some TCP/445 during the Front-End backup from the media server... while some multiple 10Mo .dat files are created on the media service logical device. So just to verify and document somewhere this flow if there is a Firewall between the media service and the front end. Thanks.
SnapDrive uses either http/https/SMB RPC(default is RPC) to communicate with storage systems, for this reason it opens a TCP 445 socket to filer.
I agree but I wanted to talk about the nature of the stream protocol between the media service and the WFE/Application servers when we backup :
- SharePoint component settings (SSO, SSP, InfoPath Forms, Global Search Settings)
- SharePoint Solutions
- Front-End Resources
Is it files copy over SMB ?
Thanks.
Whenever we are using SnapDrive the actual data is already on a LUN, i.e. on the filer, and for backup and mirrororing we use snapshot, snapmirror or snapvault technologies of Data ONTAP.
Since the data is already on the NetApp filer, SharePoint server doesn't need to copy any more data to filer.
When using mirroring data will be transferred from snapvault/snapmirror primary to secondary.
