Creating Symbolic Links via RHEL 6.x on NetApp CIFS/SMB2 Mounted Filesystem

Just as the title suggest, I have a CIFS share (from a volume in NTFS security) mounted on a RHEL 6.x box and would like to create symbolic links but get the following error:

ln: creating symbolic link `testing': Operation not supported

Is this even possible? Really need to have it mounted as CIFS and not NFS.

Did you ever get this figured out? I'm having a similar issue.
