Load Generators / Benchmarking performance for NFS/CIFS configurations

There are many options out there for performance benchmarking (ex. IOzone, fio, etc.) but mostly on the UNIX side and only helpful for testing block or NFS.  On the CIFS side, it seems the choices are slim, and even slimmer when looking at something which would drive a consisten benchmark between CIFS and NFS for a given filer configuration vs. some variance (ex. PAM vs. no-PAM).

What is everyone using?  Anyone using something like spec.org's SPEC-SFS2008 benchmark or SPC or...?  What about hardware appliance workload generators?  Anyone actually using SIO from NetApp (the code seems to be somewhat flawed from what I'm seeing).

Thanks!

If you have a look at the notes in the powerponts slides, it says what I have done in the past.

I used IOmeter to simulate CIFS.   -Wei
