SP Port Goes Up/Down

Greetings All,

After configuring the IP address for the SP port, both controller heads
continue to post the following message and justt about everyday it loses network
connection for about 10 minutes.

Message:  Line 912: Thu Oct  4 04:52:29 PDT [filer-p003:
netinet.ethr.duplct.ipAdrr:error]: Duplicate IP address
<<IP_address>>!! sent from Ethernet
address:00:a0:98:19:87:fc**.

I have checked the "system log" and "events all" logs for more details, but
nothing.

SP filer-p003>
SP filer-p003> sp uptime

One thing I've noticed is the following.  The MAC address for the SP module**
is not the same as for the interface e0M~~.   I was under the impression these
were the same interfaces.

From ifconfig -a

0M: flags=0x2b4c867<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,TCPCKSUM> mtu 1500

inet <<IP_address>>netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.xxx.xxx.xxx
ether 00:a0:98:19:87:fa~~ (auto-100tx-fd-up) flowcontrol full

Perhaps I have misconfigured the SP port.  Can you please provide some
guidance?

Thanks,

Alberto

No, they are not. They are two different interfaces connected to internal switch that is connected to the wrench port. So they need different IP addresses, and you apparently set them to the same address.

See diagram in Administration Guide which explains is very well.

Thanks for th reply, I have looked and it does say how to configure it in terms of the assigning the IP, but it does not explain how to configure the interfaces.  My understanding is that interface for the SP needs an interface so that it can be accessed externally, and such interface is the wrench one (e0M).  So if the SP IP is one, and the IP for e0M is another, how are you supposed to connect to filer in case of a failure.

Thanks,

Alberto
