chattr support

Do the netapp filers support chattr attributes?  I'm wanting to make a file (.bash_history) append only.  When I attempt to use the chattr command I get the following error (Redhat 5).

chattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device while reading flags on .bash_history

If you're trying to do this from a system using a lun from the netapp there should be no problems. If you're trying to change the attribute from an nfs mount on the filer then I don't think this will work.  I tried digging around to see if there were any known issues around this and couldn't find anything.
