We followed this article and when we tried the command

Convert Ethernet port between 40GbE and 4x10GbE personality - NetApp Knowledge Base

*> nicadmin convert –m [ 40G | 10G ] [ port ]

and we get the following error "Firmware needs to be updated to complete the change", this is on a FAS90000. Everything we checked all seems to up to date.

We cant seem to find if anyone else had this error looking for some assistance

Thats an easy one. You need to POWER CYCLE the controller.

Use the SP/BMC:

Takeover the node.

Get to LOADER prompt.

(break auto-boot)

SSH to SP/BMC

system power cycle.

The node will reboot and the card will have the new personality.
