ONTAP 8.x and DS14MK2 / ESH2 shelves - will it work?

Hi all,

As per the subject - will DS14MK2 / ESH2 shelves work at all with ONTAP 8.x (ideally 8.1)?

I know this is unsupported configuration, but was wondering whether an old shelf can be still used in a lab environment...

Hi Radek,

if i recall correctly it works, it will just give you an error that its not supported once in a while.

does it work?  ontap 8.1.x with esh2 modules?

i Need to update a customer´s filer from 7.3.3 to extend the storage with an 4346 shelf to move the data from the old mk14-esh2 shelfs to the new one, so if i dont ned to upgrade to 7.3.7, then migrate, and then upgrade to 8.1.2 i will be happy 🙂

Okay, forgot about this thread, but this is how it looks like:

It *almost* works. The controller sees the drives, but disk labels are missing. Probably not worth risking it.

We swapped ESH2 modules with ESH4 ones & the issue is gone.

ontap 8.0.x no problems, just error Messages, works quite fine

ontap 8.1.x serious problems, labels missing, constant Errors, wouldnt recommend
