OnTAP Tools 12.0 Custom User

I am currently running OnTAP Tools 11 and am about to upgrade to 12. In reading the documentation, it looks like there is a new certificate-based authentication mechanism.

One part says the following (emphasis mine): "If the storage system is added with custom created cluster scoped user using the json file and you want to upgrade to 9.12, then run the below commands on the ONTAP CLI before you upgrade to enable the certificate based communication between ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere and ONTAP."

I have a custom user account used by the plug-in, but I have no idea what this means about "using the json file". I just simply created a custom user account with limited rights to do just what was needed by the plug-in. Does anyone know if this KB applies even if you didn't create a custom user account "using the json file"?

Bumping this post in hopes that someone will reply. I am still stuck on version 9.11 until I have a resolution to this question.
