Switchless verses Switched Cluster

I'm in the process of converting an HA pair to Cluster DOT.  Other than expansion are there benefits to connecting these nodes switchless or should I connect them to an intercluster switch? Are there any operational risks going switchless?

with only two nodes, it's totally ok to go switchless. You can add switches later when adding more nodes.
