Volume size not correct with contents - reclaim

hello,

I have a thin provisioned volume of 5TB. There is only a CIFS share on this volume.

When I select all the files in my browser it says it has 2.5TB of files

But the system says it has 3.6TB in use

Filesystem               total       used      avail capacity  Mounted on

/vol/CIFS_BACKUP2/      5120GB     3643GB     1476GB      71%  /vol/CIFS_BACKUP2/

These are the options of the volume

vol options CIFS_BACKUP2

nosnap=on, nosnapdir=on, minra=off, no_atime_update=off, nvfail=off,

ignore_inconsistent=off, snapmirrored=off, create_ucode=on,

convert_ucode=on, maxdirsize=45875, schedsnapname=ordinal,

fs_size_fixed=off, guarantee=none, svo_enable=off, svo_checksum=off,

svo_allow_rman=off, svo_reject_errors=off, no_i2p=off,

fractional_reserve=0, extent=off, try_first=volume_grow,

read_realloc=off, snapshot_clone_dependency=off, dlog_hole_reserve=off,

nbu_archival_snap=off

There are no snapshots on the volume

snap list CIFS_BACKUP2

Volume CIFS_BACKUP2

working...

No snapshots exist.

I know that the Volume is thin provisioned, but how can you reclaim space from this?

Thank you in advance

Do you have large number of small files (less than 4K)?

there are 125 files and 5 folders.

It is a B2D folder where large images are saved such as acronis etc

I had a very similar problem.  A few questions:  What version of ONTAP are you running?  And, is Storage Efficiency enabled on this volume?

I'm on 8.1, and was able to reclaim the missing space by running the following two commands:

sis start -s <volume_name>

When it completes (mine took over 12 hours):

sis off <volume_name>
