Hi all,

I'm still pretty new to  Data Ontap and have the following doubt:

I'm having a problem creating FlexVol and understand setting 'guarantee' to 'volume' and 'none', but don't understand why it's not set to 'file'

I'm not sure why you are still talking about file type of guarantee

If I remember correctly it existed in 7-mode we we recommended not to use it

If I'm right and you are talking about 7-mode
please take a look on this document

space guarantee on the volume level can be either volume or none.

as the file guarantee is no longer supported for a very long time

where "none" means thin volume

and "volume" means thick

in other words

A value of volume reserves space on the aggregates for the entire volume. A value of none reserves no space on the aggregates, meaning that writes can fail if an aggregate runs out of space.

Thanks,i get it

Can you help me with another question?

if i create a 500G volume with a guarantee type of file

Whether space is reserved in the aggregate

If space was reserved, how much was reserved?
