Important information for all NetApp customers using the new A70/A90/A1K: Being the customer who experienced the issue and helped NetApp to identify it I feel responsible to inform this community about the real possible fatal effects like we faced them, because the description in the Customer Bulletin below does not reflect the worst things that can happen. Due to this issue, you may face true data corruption without a chance to detect it immediately. The most important sentence in the bug description is "ONTAP might deliver wrong user-data" (NetApp Support Site - JiraNgage - CONTAP-348855) It means Clients/Applications/Databases read data and receive the wrong content "silently". Now, you need to know that the majority of applications does not have a mechanism, which is checking this and will therefore possibly not realize that the data is wrong. The description in the following customer bulletin is misleading because this detection of "incorrect read" and "subsequent reread" is true for Oracle (that’s how we discovered it) but not for databases in general! Also, the crashes of VMs are just the tip of the iceberg, because this happens only when e.g. Windows gets such a corrupt block while reading from the page file (page-in). Other data, which is read e.g. by an application running on that VM, may not detect the wrong data. If it manipulates or forwards it, then the wrong data may be written subsequently, leading to permanent data loss. Just think about backup for example! How and when would you realize that there are individual blocks wrong? I am not aware of a possibility that backup-streams could discover wrong data in the backed up content. SU575: [Impact: Critical] SAN connected hosts may experience intermittent read checksum validation errors when hosted in LUNs or NMVe namespaces on specific NetApp platforms - NetApp Knowledge Base I would strongly recommend to talk to NetApp before using these systems in production environments . I fix for 9.15.1 should be available soon. (I assume NetApp will not seriously recommend to use 9.16.1RC1 on productive environments)

Hello, I'm trying to get an access token from Azure SAML from a PS script that would then authenticate me on the Ontap device i'm trying to get DATA from. I can only connect to the Ontap via an application in Azure, with MFA. I can recover the Token from the application but cannot use it to connect to the Ontap, the response from the API call is the login.microsoft.com page. Anyone already made it work ? I can provide samples of the code used. Cheers

Dear NetApp Gurus, I would like to know something more about data compresion during the SnapMirror replication. In my opinion, a snapmirror source can not be compressed, but the destination volume can be compressed. I rememeber, that I read somewhere this sentences. Am I right? However, in the documentation (https://www.netapp.com/media/17229-tr4015.pdf?v=127202175503P) there is written that If the source volume is compressed, the destination volume is in a compressed state as well. Replication of compressed volumes does not decompress the source volume to read data for a transfer. Rather, data is replicated in a compressed state to the destination volume. So, it means that data compression can be enabled between the source and the destination source independently. Is it correct?

We are planning to upgrade from ONTAP version 8.3.2P12 to version 9.1P20 . When trying to download the image, we were presented with two options:
1- With NetApp Volume Encryption for FAS
2- Without NetApp Volume Encryption for FAS
Apparently, no matter which option we choose, the NVE will provide the ability to use the integrated OKM w/NVE to encrypt volumes.
What are the advantages of encrypting volumes? It is really necessary?
