I think the nfs volume is exported with 700 as the permissions and root:root as owner. I cannot change it at the system level, and that needs to be done by IT on the volume/filer itself. Can you please ask them to change permissions to 755 so you can cd to it. this is issue - What should be change from filer end in the export-policy ? Superuser Security Types: sys -> this option should be changed to ?

Hi All, I am looking to upgrade our SVM's from NFS v3 to NFS 4.1 / 4.2. The SVM's host volumes for VMware Datastores (Vsphere 7), Linux Servers, Oracle, Linux NFS mapped storage and CIFS shares presented to Windows and Linux clients. Our Linux infrastructure is Red Hat 7 and we are in the process of rebuilding to Red Hat 9. We have seen some NFS file locking issues in Red Hat 9 and a suggestion has been made that upgrading to NFS 4.1 / 4.2 may solve this issue. Enabling NFS 4.1 / 4.2 looks as simple as a tick box in the SVM settings and ensuring that all Export Policies in the SVM allow for NFSv4 access protocols. Is there anything else I need to look out for? Is the transition to NFS 4.1 / 4.2 seamless from a client perspective? Looking at VMWare, it appears that there wont be an impact and that NFS 4 datastores will only be used when creating new datastores. Any pieces of advice would be welcome. It looks like a fairly simple change, but the impact if something goes wrong would be large. Thanks, Ben

Model: AFF-A200 running ONTAP 9.8P14 Hi all, We notice something has been creating snapshots on some but not all volumes. The snapshot names are UUIDs in braces, e.g.: {1e694cb2-bddb-11ee-81a5-00a098db949a}. We checked, they are not created by the volume's snapshot-policy. Those snapshots have normal names. The strange thing about these UUID-named snapshots is that they are not created on a set schedule. They don't appear everyday, but on random days. We don't know what created them and how long they will be kept, or if they will even be auto-deleted at all. So we have been manually deleting some older ones. Can you suggest what settings or logs we can look at to help identify the source of these snapshots? Thanks for your help!

Is it possible to leverage VSS/Previous Versions on Windows Servers that are hosted on Vmware datastores via NetApp FC LUNs? I know this works well when the files are in CIFS shares and volume snapshots are accessible. But can a file server that is a VM hosted on NetApp storage (FC or NFS) leverage VSS to allow "Previous Versions" restores?

We are running OnTAP 9.12.1(P11) and are considering implementing Autonomous Ransomware Protection. While I will test it, it's hard to simulate real-world scenarios perfectly. I'd love to hear from fellow admins who have implemented Autonomous Ransomware Protection what their take on it is. Was it performant? Was it mostly accurate or were there a lot of false positives? Any particular type of data it did or didn't work well on? I'd love any feedback anyone is willing to give! Thanks.
