Dear,

before go deeper in configuration of DS4243 (OS NetApp Release 8.1.3 7-Mode) need help for :

  • identify  and check the location of disk image
  • get the path for upgrading to he last version
  • How Can I reset the root account without restarting?

Unfortunately it is not so simple. 

 

First of all you must determine WHEN the password was changed and then, if still existing on the filer, analyze the logs to see if something is reported.

 

On that version of ONTAP not everything was tracked and most of the things were not built considering the security (ssh was not the only method to access).

Unfortunately 7-Mode is not supported anymore and there is no way to have the official images from NetApp (not available anymore any version)

For 7-Mode the latest version is 8.2.5P5 (not sure it is supported on that hw) 

Not possible to reset the root password without reboot

Thank you for your interest. but what interests me is how this system could have been hacked, because following an attack this system was hacked, and the root password was modified: an interesting case study
