iSCSI LUN Migration from QNAP to NetApp storage

Hi,

I am trying to migrate iSCSI LUN from QNAP storage to NetApp Storage using Windows "Dynamic disk replication" by mirroring the QNAP and NetApp LUNs on the Windows server. Getting the error "All disks holding extents for a given volume must have the same sector side and the sector size must be valid" while trying to add the NetApp LUN as a mirror.

Do we have any workaround/solution to overcome this error as modifying the sector size is not an option?

Source and Target LUNS are the same size.

Thanks

Guru

Hi @AnanthaGuru,

This NetApp KB article states that:

  • ONTAP LUNs have 4096 Bytes as physical sector size and 512 Bytes logical sector size (512e)
  • These value cannot be altered

https://kb.netapp.com/on-prem/ontap/OHW/OHW-KBs/Does_the_physical_sector_size_can_be_changed_from_ONTAP

What may be an option is NetApp Foreign LUN Import (FLI), this is normally Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP), but there is a workaround documented for iSCSI here

https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap-fli/san-migration/task_importing_non_fc_luns.html
