what choise ? volume or LUN relationship protection ?

Hello and sorry for my english.

I installed new Windows server. On this server i connected ISCSI LUN where will be store Data.
This LUN is on my first cluster with ISCSI, 2 IP, one for each node.

No, i have second cluster, so i want to create disaster recovery. In relationship protection, i can do with Volume and select  my DATA volume on first cluster OR i can do LUN Protection and select my LUN/volume on first cluster.

But i not sure what is the best to select between the 2 ? volume or LUN ? what the difference ?

if the first cluster is down, i want to start on second cluster.

If i select LUN, ISCSI IPs from first cluster will move on second cluster if i do fall over ?

thanks a lot

You can do snapmirror synchronization,SnapMirror active sync (also referred to as SnapMirror Business Continuity [SM-BC]), enables business services to continue operating even through a complete site failure, supporting applications to fail over transparently using a secondary copy. There is no manual intervention or custom scripting required to trigger a failover with SnapMirror active sync.

SnapMirror active sync provides the following benefits:

  • Continuous availability for business-critical applications.

  • Ability to host critical applications alternately from primary and secondary sites.

  • Simplified application management using consistency groups for dependent write-order consistency.

  • The ability to test failover for each application.

  • Instantaneous creation of mirror clones without impacting application availability.

  • The ability to deploy protected and non-protected workloads in the same ONTAP cluster.

  • LUN identity remains the same, so the application sees them as a shared virtual device.

  • The ability to reuse secondary clusters with flexibility to create instantaneous clones for application usage for dev-test, UAT or reporting purposes without impacting application performance or availability.

Hello,

I think i will not choose Business continuity but only snapmirror synchronization.

To do that, on backup cluster i have to choose LUN or volume protection ?

what is the difference ?

thanks
