Adding a DS4246 to a FAS2720 with DS212C

HWU lists DS4246 as supported with FAS2720.  However, the controller only has MiniSAS-HD.  Is connecting the DS4246 to the DS212C stack truly supported?  I can't see how else to bring it into the configuration otherwise.

Thank you for any insight you may be able to offer here.

I've always understood it in that config as a no, based on what it says in the docs.  Because you can only have a single stack.

"You can hot-add a stack of disk shelves with IOM12 modules to a system that has existing stacks of disk shelves with IOM6 and IOM3 modules. Disk shelves with IOM12 modules must be in their own unique stack."

What you can do is replace the IOM6s in the DS4246 with IOM12s and you'll be good.  (you can verify compatability in HWU)

Can it be done non-disruptively?

Just do one at a time and you should be fine.

Did it change recently? I reviewed available documentation and it says

  • IOM12 upgrade procedure is a disruptive operation
  • System and storage must be powered down to complete swap operation of IOM3/IOM6 to IOM12

Which doc is that in?

Thanks for the DM.

But back to OP,  since he's adding it,  he could technically just  in the IOM12s into the new shelf and then add it.

Disruptive would be if it was a stack of IOM6s and he wanted update those to IOM12s to add a 12 shelf.

Ah, right. If this is new shelf this is of course an option.
