ONTAP Hardware
Hi everybody,
One of my customer want to add a DS14MK2 AT-FCx on his FAS2020 mono controler.
So i have installed this shelf, but i have a problem when i try to see this shelf ...
In my syslog message i have this error :
[scsi.cmd.notReadyCondition:notice]: Disk device 0b.17: Device returns not yet ready: CDB 0x12: Sense Data SCSI:not ready - Drive spinning up (0x2 - 0x4 0x1 0x0)(7712).
And when i watch in Filer View, under Storage, Shelves, Report, i have this ligne :
UNUSED.shelf0 UNUSED 0 - online n/a
So i have no idea why it didn't work ....
Thanks a lot for your advises
Regards.
Arnaud
Solved! See The Solution
You will need to reassign disks. Try “disk assign 0a.16 -f”.
Hi Amaud,
Which Data ONTAP version are you running ?
Also, what is the capacity of SATA drive you want to add ?
As such there is no issue with the Drive spin.
You just need to make sure the Disk Shelf you are adding ( having minimum version of Data ONTAP) to the controller is having the correct Data ONTAP version. ( Atleast running the minimum version of Data ONTAP supported by the shelf).

Hi Bakshana,
I am running Data ONTAP 7.3.7. I try to add 6 disk of 1 Tb.
How can i check Data ONTAP version on the shelf ?
Thanks a lot
Please show “storage show disk -x” output.
Hi aborzenkov,
Here output of "storage show disk -x" command :
Disk i try to add, are :
-0a.xx and 0b xxx
Regards.
As far as I can tell it looks fine. So what is the problem (and message is not a problem by itself)?
Problem is that i can't add any new disk to a new aggregate.
In fact, when i try to create new aggregate, no disk are available. I should have my 6 disk of 1Tb ?
so, is this line is normal ?
And when i watch in Filer View, under Storage, Shelves, Report, i have this ligne :
UNUSED.shelf0 UNUSED 0 - online n/a
shelf appear like UNUSED ?
Please, paste output of command “disk show -v”
Hi.
Below output of "disk show -v" :
Owner of this disk appear to be FAS3020 ! The problem is i have no FAS3020 ... Only my FAS2020...
You will need to reassign disks. Try “disk assign 0a.16 -f”.
Hi,
You rocks !!! It work fine now. so can you explain me why disk have been assign to a virtual FAS3020 ? It is strange no ?
Thanks a lot !
Where did these disks come from? Sometimes a customer may ship from another system or a used shelf was purchased. Not likely a new factory shelf which would have no ownership.
I am asking to my customer where did these disk come from ... I think this disk come from an older plateform FAS3020 ...
